Acomplia
Acomplia (rimonabant) is an anorectic anti-obesity medicine intended for the treatment of obesity. The effects of Acomplia are based on blocking the feeling of hunger, which makes easier for you to lose weight. The effects of Acomplia are based on restoring the balance of chemicals in the brain therefore suppressing appetite and even reducing tobacco dependency. Some side effects are possible when taking Acomplia – just like with any medicine no matter how safe it generally is. The following side effects are sometimes experienced by patients taking Acomplia: nausea, irritability, restlessness, anxiety, sleep problems, dizziness, irritability, nausea, depression, vomiting, anorexia, and dry mouth. The intensity of these side effects can be different for different patients, but you will need to report them to your health care provider if they get very bothersome and prevent you from doing the everyday activities you never had trouble doing. Patients taking Acomplia for a year reported up to 20 pounds of weight loss that was later maintained (they did not gain it back). This happens in more than 35% of cases, while other patients may lose less than that, but will still be able to maintain the progress achieved. Tell your health care provider about any conditions you have or used to have that can interfere with the success of your treatment. The following ones should be mentioned: liver problems, impaired kidney function and a history of epilepsy, as well as any other health problems you have or used to have that may potentially interfere with the effects of Acomplia. Do not start taking any new medications and report the fact of taking Acomplia to some other doctor who is about to prescribed you another medicine. The following drugs are not supposed to be used in combination with Acomplia: epilepsy drugs, medicines for weight loss, HIV medications, antidepressants, antifungals, St. John’s wort, rifampicin, antidiabetes medications, depression medications, antibiotics, as well as drugs for normal blood lipid levels. In case of a missed dose you just need to take it as soon as you remember. However, if you remember too late and it is almost time for the next dose – make sure you do not take a double dose and avoid using to doses too closely in time. Just skip the dose you missed and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Try not to miss doses too often as it can affect the success of your treatment.
